"What would happen if I switch over to Aqarian Drumheads?"
Hello Juan
For many years I play on a Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage (without Yess). I am using Remo Ambassadors on top and bottom (Clear versions) on my 8" tom and on the other toms (10", 12", 14" and 16") I have Clear Emperrors on top and Clear Ambassadors on the bottom. Too me it sounds amazing.
Out of curiousty my question is: what will happen if I would replace all drum heads with Aquarian drumheads? Douply ply on top and single ply on the bottom. Does it make a difference if I use clear heads or coated ones? I like the looks of a clear drum head, but that's just me.... Sound wise I love to have a warm, rich and full tone with sustain and a nice round attack. (like Pink Floyd I guess)
Thanks for your interest,
Rob
Hallo Rob!
If you are so used to and happy with the sound you have right now, why change?...
But I can understand that you are probably looking for more, so here's what I would do if I were you: keep the clear Ambassadors on the bottom; they probably are tuned very well and they give you the right tone for every tom. Maybe start with using 'Aqarian Respons 2 Clear' on top. Using coated drum heads only makes sense if you would play with brushes.
However if you play with sticks most of the times it's better to use the clear drumheads. The Response 2 are so easy to tune it's almost unbelievable! Further more do they stay in tune right from the beginning and that's a fact! I can tell from experience that whenever I tour and I have to change drumheads, I can do it in no-time and I get the same tone back in a 'blink of an eye'. Neither do I have to stretch these heads before using them which is, most of the time, an absolutely must with any other brand.
Try and let me know how it works for you, ok?
Cheers and good luck with it!
Juan
