drumming secrets

Working with Juan is as dull as can be: he comes in good humoured , brings in a massive, perfect drumsound and when he starts to play the only thing he has to concentrate on is the energy he puts in. Everything goes well from the start: extremely boring!

Having said that: I didn’t do the engineering myself, my friend Rob Rietveld did. I was just dropping in at times to give some advise, share some ideas and lend them my ears (which didn’t proof very usefull, as all went irritatingly well). Juan even claimed he liked my vegatarian pealla, which is ridiculous, even foolish, because now I’m going to cook for him again next time.

On the serious part: since Juan is a perfect drummer, who has a distinctive opinion of recording drums and thourough knowledge of sound, the “only thing” Rob had to do is capture the wonderous playing of Juan. I think both Rob and Juan did a fantastic job. I hope Juan will come in to record more, a lot more, since it’s a joy to have him (and Jenna and Dami) around.
