Christmas for drummers (a funny joke pulled on me….)
Every now and then we like to pull a little joke on someone; it’s good for laughter and it makes life so much richer! But what if the joke is pulled on you by somebody else?
During this summer holiday season at school I needed to prepare myself and study a new repertoire. I know that our teaching room at the WMDC (World Music & Dance Centre) in Rotterdam is a great place for it; daylight, big room with good acoustics and supplied with an air conditioner, and specially during the summer holiday: there are hardly any students around who need the room to study.
However, to make sure nobody would just come in the room, I placed a note on the door saying: “Please, Do Not Disturb!” I also got the key of this room, to make sure that the room was going to be all mine for the whole next 3 days! My rehearsals started at 11:00 and I worked till 17:00 nonstop, with just a few breaks to have lunch and to cool down a bit. (I love to work hard and practice this way. It makes me sweat and I always feel satisfied after wards!)
However on the 3rd day I opened the door of my room in the morning and to my surprise my drumkit was totally covered with…..Christmas tree decorations and a Christmas tree!! My first thought was: “huh? Who the (f*ck)came in this room……and where did he get this Xmas tree from anyway?”
A few minutes later Angelo came in; you must know that he is a guitar player that works at the WMDC as a concierge. He had a too big smile on his face and when I saw that smile I realized that there there’s only one person on the world who could have done it: Mr. Angelo of course!
He actually came up to see if his joke worked out ok…. Well, it sure did! He had me placed in a position that I hardly ever get into; usually I am the guy playing practical jokes on others!!
Touché Angelo…. 1-0 for you!!.....but be careful now; you’ve just inspired me, ha,ha,ha,ha,…
